Envisioning the Digital City
Addressing the contemporary surge in demand for STEM professionals, and in alignment with university initiatives to promote STEM education, a workshop was developed for secondary school students. The workshop sought to reframe computing as a pragmatic, socially relevant, and people-centered discipline. By introducing foundational concepts of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) within a design thinking framework, students were tasked with developing mobile application solutions to real-world urban challenges. The utilization of design artifacts, including scenario boards, user personas, thematic cards, and paper-based sketches, facilitated fruitful brainstorming sessions and the generation of creative solutions, culminating in the development of low-fidelity prototypes, despite the participants’ limited prior experience in design and programming.
